![]() Does your school have a costume day for Halloween? Get out the face paint and get out the hair dye. This is the time of year to let the real you out of your cage to shine. See how the world reacts to the animal you have always wanted to be. But don't worry if you can't think of an idea because I'm sure mom and dad have plenty of costume ideas. And if not, just look around the internet for some great characters. How about dressing up like your favourite TV character. Or, look in the library and I'm sure you will get some fabulous thoughts that will excite you with plans. There's always the old white sheet that can be thrown over your head. Just cut out some eyes so you don't trip and spill your bag of treats. Last year my grandson asked his dad to shave a circles on the top of his head with lots of hair remaining in a circle around the bald spot. He threw on a brown cape and went as a monk and he won first prize at his school. I don't think he realized how permanent this costume was until that night after trick or treating. Dad shaved off the rest of his hair and he was bald for many weeks until his beautiful waves grew back. No matter what you wear, I'm sure your favourite part of Halloween is the bag full of treats you bring back home and hide in your closet so that your mom and dad won't eat all your chocolate bars. Be careful out in the neighbourhood. Not all cars can see you very well so please look both ways and don't cross until the roads are safe. Make sure the costume leaves you a clear view of the street. And try to stay in areas where there are plenty of other children. And most important: HAVE FUN

AuthorJean Horst is a mom and grammy living along the sandy shores of Lake Huron in the summer. The rest of the time, when I'm not travelling to get new ideas for children's books, I live in Waterloo, Ontario Canada. I love writing kids books. My reward is seeing the smiles on the faces of children. |
