- DANGEROUS FLIGHT
- CHAPTER 1
“Ouch! I cracked my head!” Pintsize cried. He was being tossed about wildly, struggling to keep his balance even with his six tiny, bedbug feet. As he thought about what was going on outside the box he seemed to be in, he shook uncontrollably.
“Dad, rescue me! Please!” Pintsize was scared and lonely. He had no idea how to escape from this dangerous predicament. But no one answered his cry. And no one heard his terrified screams. “Am I going to die in here?”
With no light to tell him if it was day or night, Pintsize could have been locked away for hours or days. He could smell something wild. And there was a strange scratching and whimpering that seemed very close. “Was it coming from inside or outside this cramped universe?” he wondered. His imagination was out of control.
“I’ll do what you tell me, dad!” he shrieked. “Honest! You warned me not to sleep on the floor. Oh, why didn’t I listen? I’m sorry I got mad. I just wanted to sleep at my friend Dyno Mite’s last night.” Pintsize cried. “Next time, I’ll do whatever you tell me.” He swallowed hard. “If there is a next time…” He tried to calm down, and made a promise to anyone who might be in hearing range “I promise, from now on, I’ll listen. Mom told me my attitude would get me in trouble, she was right.”
A sliver of light pierced through darkness, outlining a crack in his box.
“What’s going to happen now?” Pintsize worried. “How long was I asleep?” Suddenly he was scared all over again.
“Wait a minute…do I hear Abby?” he whispered to himself. “Who is she talking to…and what are they saying?”
“Nĭ hăo,” Abby said.
“Knee how?” Pintsize repeated, very confused. “What’s that?”
A blinding, blast of light exploded into his space now. “Wow, I’m in Abby’s suitcase,” he suddenly realized. “And that’s Finn, Abby’s little puppy, beside me!” Finn too was trembling.
Pinty would normally have been afraid of the puppy, but seeing how terrified Finn was, he decided he needed to look brave. Not that Finn could really see him.
Pintsize could make out Abby’s tattered bug book, and her pink polka-dot sweater. He even saw the red case she used to carry her smart phone stashed in a corner of the suitcase.
